A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE CORINTH JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL WARRIORS BASKETBALL TEAM AND HEAD COACHES FRED STAFFORD AND SCOTT MITCHELL ON WINNING THE 2009 AND 2010 FIVE COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIPS.

     WHEREAS, Corinth Junior High School Basketball Team and Head Coaches Fred Stafford and Scott Mitchell won the 2009 and 2010 Five County Championships, thus starting a reign in Mississippi sports; and

     WHEREAS, turning young boys into men, the Corinth Junior High Team program's future is bright with Head Coaches Fred Stafford and Scott Mitchell at the helm, bolstered with the support of the boys' local community; and

     WHEREAS, Corinth's Warriors eighth grade basketball team did not miss a beat and picked up where they left off last season as seventh graders--perfection; and

     WHEREAS, in one of the most dominating performances of the tournament, the Corinth Warriors turned in its second perfect season after claiming the annual Five County Tournament held at Northeast Mississippi Community College; and

     WHEREAS, Coaches Stafford's and Mitchell's undefeated team compiled a 20-0 record with all but three of the members who played on the seventh grade team last year; and

     WHEREAS, being incredibly well-disciplined young men, the Corinth Junior High Warriors Basketball Team won its second straight Alcorn County Tournament title by beating Kossuth with a score of 47-9 and Alcorn Central with a score of 62-31; and

     WHEREAS, making the finals of the county tournament qualified the club for the 10-team event at Northeast and after drawing a bye, the Warriors opened play with a 54-41 decision over Booneville with three starters in foul trouble; and

     WHEREAS, their winning ways continued when the Warriors topped New Albany 52-45 in the semifinal round before trouncing Blue Mountain 58-21 in the title game, winning their second straight championship by 37 points; and

     WHEREAS, adding to the trophy case, the Corinth Junior High Basketball Team is one of few teams from any school in any sport to win two consecutive championships; and

     WHEREAS, in order to be two-time champions Corinth Junior High Team had to put in additional hard work that began in the early fall months and continued through the spring; and

     WHEREAS, many of the members of the Corinth Junior High School Team will remember the lessons learned through playing for Head Coaches Fred Stafford and Scott Mitchell, such as pushing one's body past exhaustion, injury, pain and other obstacles to victory; and

     WHEREAS, Head Coaches Fred Stafford's and Scott Mitchell's wisdom and relentless preparation have equipped their basketball players for the inequitable challenges that they will face in life; and

     WHEREAS, the members of the 2010 Corinth Junior High Basketball Team are as follows:  Kyoshi Agnew, Mike Clark, Jose Contreras, Jarron Edmond, Quajae Fisher, Desmin Harris, Darius Herman, Quavon Hughey, James Jourdan, Avery McGrath, Justin Mills, Hayden Park, Desmund Patterson, Malcolm Patton, Raheem Sorrell,

Bubba Walker and Kendrick Williams; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend such a superb group of student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Corinth Junior High Warriors Basketball Team and Head Coaches Fred Stafford and Scott Mitchell on winning the 2009 and 2010 Five County Championships and extend best wishes for continued success in all of their future athletic and academic endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Corinth Junior High School Basketball Team, Head Coaches Fred Stafford and Scott Mitchell, and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
