House Resolution 58

A RESOLUTION DESIGNATING MARCH 16, 2010, AS BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB DAY AT THE MISSISSIPPI STATE CAPITOL.

     WHEREAS, the young people of today in Mississippi are tomorrow's leaders; and

     WHEREAS, many such young people need professional youth services to help them achieve their full potential; and

     WHEREAS, the Boys and Girls Clubs in Mississippi provide programs in character and leadership development, health and life skills, education and career development, sports and recreation, and the arts; and

     WHEREAS, the Boys and Girls Clubs in Mississippi provide positive places for our youth by instilling in them a sense of competence, usefulness and belonging; and

     WHEREAS, the Boys and Girls Clubs in Mississippi foster within all its members the qualities of sound character, leadership and a willingness to serve; and

     WHEREAS, the Boys and Girls Clubs National Youth of the Year Program is designed to promote and recognize service to the club and community, academic performance, and contributions to family and spiritual life; and

     WHEREAS, there are 92 Boys and Girls Club sites in the State of Mississippi representing 23 organizations that provide services to over 54,000 youth each year; and

     WHEREAS, the week of March 21 through March 27 is recognized nationally as Boys and Girls Club Week:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby recognize and commend the Mississippi Alliance of the Boys and Girls Clubs, its staff and volunteers, for providing a positive and safe environment for the youth of our state and declare March 16, 2010, as Boys and Girls Club Day at the Mississippi State Capitol.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the Mississippi Alliance of the Boys and Girls Clubs and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
