A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING WARREN L. ASHMORE ON BEING A 2009 RECIPIENT OF THE GOLD LEVEL PRESIDENT'S VOLUNTEER SERVICE AWARD.

     WHEREAS, Warren Ashmore is a 2009 recipient of the Gold Level President's Volunteer Service Award, which recognizes a dedication to volunteerism and signifies service to community and country with distinction; and

     WHEREAS, as a 2009 President's Volunteer Service Award winner, Warren received a letter of congratulations from the President of the United States thanking him for his devotion to service and helping to "shape a better tomorrow for our great nation"; and

     WHEREAS, Warren also received a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition and a congratulatory letter from Congressman Gregg Harper recognizing his dedicated service and initiative; and

     WHEREAS, the President's Volunteer Service Award was created by the President's Council on Service and Civic Participation to thank and honor deserving volunteers for their outstanding and sustained volunteer service, which demonstrates the best of the American spirit; and

     WHEREAS, recipients of the President's Volunteer Service Award, whose everyday acts of kindness and decency make our country a better place, demonstrate values that make our nation strong and a commitment to build a culture of citizenship, service and responsibility in America; and

     WHEREAS, the President's Volunteer Service Award recognizes individuals who have achieved a certain standard, which is measured by the number of hours of volunteer service over a 12-month period or cumulative hours earned over the course of a lifetime; and

     WHEREAS, during a 12-month period, Warren earned over 500 community service hours with various organizations and special events, including the Academy of Lsshinryu Martial Arts, Exchange Club Fair, Ole Brook Festival, Back-to-School Supply Drive, Brookhaven Animal Rescue League Supply Drive, Voter Registration, Angel Tree, Brookhaven High School's National Honor Society and the Lincoln County Teenage Republicans Club; and

     WHEREAS, Warren is a 2009 honor graduate of Brookhaven High School, where he was a Mississippi Scholar, member of the National Honor Society, the Ole Brook Golf Team and Vice President of the Lincoln County Teenage Republicans Club; and

     WHEREAS, Warren is now a freshman at Copiah-Lincoln Community College with plans to continue his education at Mississippi State University; and

     WHEREAS, Warren's volunteer efforts throughout his high school career, combined with his demonstrated leadership skills and grade point average, earned Warren several college scholarships, including the Will Valentine Memorial, Best Buy, Lincoln County Forestry, Copiah-Lincoln Community College Leadership and Wolf Tales scholarships, along with the Mississippi Tuition Assistance Grant (MTAG); and

     WHEREAS, Warren Ashmore's goals in life include finishing his college education and becoming a wildlife biologist, which will allow him to continue to give back to the public through community service and mentoring, and hopefully, eventually becoming a supervisory wildlife biologist, possibly with the Corps of Engineers; and

     WHEREAS, as a wildlife biologist, Warren hopes to help others respect, appreciate and enjoy our state's wildlife and natural resources; and   

     WHEREAS, an outstanding example to his peers, Warren wakes up each day wanting to teach and demonstrate leadership skills, citizenship, patriotism, discipline and commitment to his friends, neighbors and anyone he sees on a daily basis; and

     WHEREAS, when not engaged in his academic studies or serving the community, Warren is quite the golfer, and it should come as no surprise that he was one of his Ole Brook Golf Team's captains; and

     WHEREAS, Warren is the son of proud parents, Cindy Moore and Larry Ashmore; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend excellence, especially when exhibited by such a superb student as Warren L. Ashmore, who has brought honor to his school, his community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Warren L. Ashmore as a 2009 recipient of the Gold Level President's Volunteer Service Award and extend best wishes for continued success in all of his future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Warren L. Ashmore and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
