A RESOLUTION COMMENDING CHARLES A. SISSON, JR., M.D., FAAP, ON HIS MERITED AND DEDICATED SERVICE TO GILMORE MEMORIAL HOSPITAL AND THE MAGNOLIA STATE.

     WHEREAS, Charles A. Sisson, Jr., M.D., was born on March 29, 1936, in Clarksdale, Mississippi, to Charles A. Sisson and Ione Calhoon Sisson; and

     WHEREAS, as a doctor, Charles A. Sisson, Jr., M.D., has given more than 37 years of dedicated service to the children of the Magnolia State in his pediatrics practice at Gilmore Memorial Hospital, in Amory, Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, Dr. Sisson's approach to the practice of pediatrics has been to provide knowledge and judgment while giving care to the wonderful children of Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, Dr. Sisson credits his success to the exceptional medical staff, nurses and supportive personnel of Gilmore Memorial Hospital; and

     WHEREAS, Dr. Sisson is a 1954 graduate of John Rundle High School, in Grenada, Mississippi, and a 1957 graduate of the University of Mississippi in pre-medical studies, and after college, Dr. Sisson entered the University of Mississippi School of Medicine and earned his M.D. in 1961; and

     WHEREAS, Dr. Sisson did a rotating internship from 1961 to 1962, at Memorial Hospital of Chatham County, Savannah, Georgia, and a pediatric residency from 1964 through 1966 under sponsorship with the United States Air Force at the University of Mississippi Medical Center; and

     WHEREAS, Dr. Sisson obtained his board certification in pediatrics on March 3, 1968; and

     WHEREAS, Dr. Sisson entered the United States Air Force in 1962, and was stationed at USAF Hospital, Blytheville AFB, Arkansas, until 1964, serving as a General Medical Officer and acting Pediatrician; and

     WHEREAS, Dr. Sisson next served our country at a duty station overseas in the headquarters of the USAF Europe Hospital, Wiesbaden, West Germany, from 1966 as a staff pediatrician until 1968; and

     WHEREAS, in 1968, Dr. Sisson was appointed Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics until arrival of a permanent chairman later that year; and

     WHEREAS, Dr. Sisson's last duty station was USAF Academy as Chief, Department of Pediatrics, USAF Academy Hospital and was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel; and

     WHEREAS, in 1972, Dr. Sisson resigned to return to the private practice of pediatrics with Dr. Wendell Stockton and the Gilmore Memorial Hospital in Amory, Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, in 1974, Dr. Sisson became a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and was elected Chief of Medical Staff of Gilmore Memorial and later became the chairman of the pediatric service for 18 years with Dr. W.H. Stockton; and

     WHEREAS, Dr. Sisson's grandfather was the late Thomas Upton Sisson, the former U.S. Congressman; and

     WHEREAS, Dr. Sisson is married to Sandra Sisson of Louisville, and they have two children, Charles A. Sisson, III of Amory, Mississippi, and Ione Elizabeth Sisson, who is deceased; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend such a superb doctor who has brought honor to his practice, his community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend Charles A. Sisson, Jr., M.D., FAAP, on his merited and dedicated service to Gilmore Memorial Hospital and to the Magnolia State, and extend to him our best wishes for continued success in all of his future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Dr. Charles A. Sisson, his family and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
