House Concurrent Resolution 122

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING MARCH 25, 2010, AS BRAIN INJURY AWARENESS DAY IN MISSISSIPPI.

     WHEREAS, March 25, 2010, is recognized as Brain Injury Awareness Day in the State of Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, there are currently 5.3 million Americans living with disabilities due to brain injury, and each year 235,000 persons, or one person every 23 seconds, are hospitalized with brain injury; and

     WHEREAS, brain injury is the number one killer of persons age 44 and under, taking the lives of more than 50,000 persons each year in the United States; and

     WHEREAS, half of all persons sustaining brain injury are between the ages of 16 and 40; and

     WHEREAS, public awareness of the consequences of brain injury is critical to reaching an understanding that will lead to the prevention of brain injury and enhance the recovery process; and

     WHEREAS, the Brain Injury Association of Mississippi develops and implements programs to alert the citizens of this state of the consequences of brain injury and of the importance of preventive measures; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to bring attention to such disabilities as brain injury and to organizations such as the Brain Injury Association of Mississippi, and to encourage improved education, diagnosis, research, prevention and treatment:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby recognize March 25, 2010, as Brain Injury Awareness Day in the State of Mississippi and extend best wishes in support of organizations in their work for this cause.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
