A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING BRYCE MORGAN SHANDS OF THE PINE BURR AREA BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA ON THE HONOR OF RECEIVING THE EAGLE SCOUT AWARD.

     WHEREAS, Bryce Morgan Shands, of Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, and a member of the Pine Burr Area Boy Scouts of America, will experience the honor of receiving the Eagle Scout Award on March 28, 2010, presented by the Pine Burr Area Council; and

     WHEREAS, Bryce, a member of the 2010 St. Stanislaus College Senior Class, has been a scout for a number of years, and his list of community service and extracurricular activities indicate the achievements and the bright future that lies in store for this young Mississippian, as evidenced by the receipt of the Eagle Scout honor, participation as a delegate to the American Legion Boys State Convention and his acceptance to the University of Southern Mississippi, the University of Mississippi and the University of New Orleans; and

     WHEREAS, through his years as a Boy Scout, Bryce has met all the requirements and has earned the required merit badges to fulfill his duties and obligations of maintaining and promoting the mission and vision of the Boy Scouts of America; and

     WHEREAS, an individual with a zeal providing service to others through a yeoman's volunteerism, Bryce has endeavored to wholly yield himself to the aid of his family, fellowman and other noteworthy causes such as the St. Stanislaus Food Drive, St. Stanislaus Clothing Drive, a volunteer for Vacation Bible School, a member of the Haitian Relief Team, a member of the Uganda Relief Team, various community service projects and volunteering in various statewide and local political campaigns; and

     WHEREAS, at St. Stanislaus College, Bryce is actively engaged in many aspects of the school's programs, including his service, membership and participation as the Voice of the Rock-A-Chaws for St. Stanislaus Football and Basketball, a five-time Varsity Letterman, a leading talent for the St. Stanislaus Drama Club, a member of the St. Stanislaus Orientation Team, a St. Stanislaus Music Ministry Singer, the Minister of Hospitality at Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church, the St. Stanislaus Minister of Communion, a member of the St. Stanislaus Show Choir, a member of the St. Stanislaus Mock Trial Team and as a St. Stanislaus delegate to Youth Legislature, where he was recognized as Outstanding Representative and Committee Chair; and

     WHEREAS, Bryce, a five-time legislative page, has rendered his service and keen interest for politics to both the Mississippi House of Representatives and the Mississippi Senate, serving most frequently for Speaker Pro Tempore of the House, the Honorable J.P. Compretta; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we commend this young Mississippian who has attained scouting's highest rank and in doing so, brings honor to his family, his school, his community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Bryce Morgan Shands of the Pine Burr Area Boy Scouts of America on the honor of receiving the Eagle Scout Award and express heartiest wishes for continued success in all of his future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Bryce Morgan Shands and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
