House Concurrent Resolution 15

(As Adopted by House)

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION URGING THE STATE OF LOUISIANA TO PROVIDE RECIPROCITY FOR MISSISSIPPIANS WITH VALID GUN PERMITS.

WHEREAS, the State of Mississippi enacted Section 45-9-101 in 1991, which provides a license to carry concealed weapons in the state; and

WHEREAS, the licensing process is a very thorough process which insures that only law-abiding citizens may obtain a gun permit; and

WHEREAS, Section 45-9-101 specifically provides reciprocity for gun permits issued in other states; and

WHEREAS, the State of Louisiana can enjoy reciprocity with Mississippi by contacting the Department of Public Safety; and

WHEREAS, Louisiana should grant such reciprocity to Mississippi so our citizens can be free to exercise the constitutional right to bear arms; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to take affirmative steps to promote the health, safety and welfare of all citizens:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby urge the State of Louisiana to take any necessary action to provide reciprocity for Mississippi citizens with valid gun permits.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the Governor of the State of Louisiana, the President of the Louisiana Senate, the Speaker of the Louisiana House of Representatives and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
