AN ACT TO PROVIDE THAT MEDICAL EXAMINERS FROM MISSISSIPPI MAY PRONOUNCE THE DEATHS OF PERSONS WHO DIE IN LOUISIANA AND ISSUE DEATH CERTIFICATES FOR THOSE PERSONS, WHICH MUST BE ACCEPTED AND FILED BY THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  A county medical examiner, county medical examiner investigator or coroner from Mississippi may pronounce the death of a person who dies in Louisiana and issue a death certificate for that person.  The State Department of Health shall accept and file the death certificate of any such person that is filed with the department.  The county medical examiner, county medical examiner investigator or coroner shall be paid a fee for performing this service from the funeral home that handles the funeral of the deceased person or the next of kin of the deceased person.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2010.
