AN ACT TO REQUIRE PHARMACISTS WHO ARE AUTHORIZED TO ADMINISTER INJECTIONS TO OBTAIN FROM EACH PERSON TO WHOM THEY GIVE AN INJECTION THE NAME OF THE PERSON'S PRIMARY CARE PHYSICIAN; TO REQUIRE THE PHARMACIST TO NOTIFY THE PERSON'S PRIMARY CARE PHYSICIAN OF THE DATE OF THE INJECTION AND THE NAME AND DOSAGE AMOUNT OF THE MEDICINE OR OTHER SUBSTANCE THAT WAS GIVEN IN THE INJECTION; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  Before a pharmacist who is authorized to administer injections may give an injection to a person, the pharmacist must obtain from the person the name of the person's primary care physician or, if none, the health care professional from whom the person receives most of his or her medical care.  Within ten (10) business days after giving the injection to the person, the pharmacist shall notify in writing the person's primary care physician or health care professional of the date of the injection and the name and dosage amount of the medicine or other substance that was given in the injection.  The State Board of Pharmacy shall adopt appropriate regulations to provide for the enforcement of this section.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2010.
