House Bill 373

AN ACT TO ESTABLISH AND CREATE AN OFFENSE FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS WHO PROVIDE FALSE EVIDENCE IN CRIMINAL TRIALS; TO PROVIDE PENALTIES; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  It shall be unlawful for any law enforcement officer to provide false testimony or false evidence in any criminal case.  Any person violating the provisions of this section shall be guilty of a felony; and, upon conviction, shall be punished by imprisonment of a term of five (5) years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections or a fine of Five Thousand Dollars ($5,000.00), or both.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
