A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE BALDWYN HIGH SCHOOL "BEARCATS" FOOTBALL TEAM AND COACH JIMMY DILLINGER FOR WINNING THE 2008 CLASS 2A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP, AND FOR THEIR 2008 14-1 SEASON.
WHEREAS, Xzadrian Shelley ran for 179 yards and scored one touchdown to lead the Baldwyn High School "Bearcats" Football Team to a 35-26 victory over the Forest High School "Bearcats" on Saturday, December 6, 2008, in the Mississippi High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) Class 2A State Championship for their first ever state championship in football; and
WHEREAS, Baldwyn (14-1), which has amassed a 92-33 record, including seven region championships since 1999, also received touchdown contributions from Junior Beene, Jaymel Tyes, Dorian Berry and Tanner Gaines in that championship gain; and
WHEREAS, the stellar season that garnered so much success was made possible because of the contributions and efforts of each individual team member of the Baldwyn High School "Bearcats" that included the following roster for the Fall 2008-2009 season: Walker Wildmon, Tevin McGaughy, Junior (Buck) Beene, Tyler Estes, Channing Penson, Xzadrian Shelley, Antonio Rucker, Jaymel Tyes, Dorian Berry, Tanner Gaines, Koty King, Shane Gordon, Derrick Knox, Reggie Patterson, Seth Swinney, Austin Martin, Devin Lindsey, Jordan Bowdry, Kolin Grice, Angela Wolf, Corey Davis, Tracey Billups, Jordan Cobb, Deante Welch, Clifton Donald, Mitchell Winstead, Austin Zahn, Eric Watson, Josh Franks, Jahmai Hodges, Joshua Harkey, Xavier Gamble, Kingston Price, Keyon Perkins, Sam Watson, Stacey Billups, Eric Brigman, Arsenio Chandler, Brandon May, Perez Welch, Cayse Copeland, Joshua Thompson, Matt Sheffield, Chance Earnest, Jesse Napier, Tyler Floyd, Cody Wolf, and Jake Powell; and
WHEREAS, the talent and abilities of several members of the squad were recognized by other educational institutions, as demonstrated by Xzadrian Shelley, Jaymel Tyes and Dorian Berry receiving college scholarships to Delta State University; and by the fact that Shane Gordon, Perez Welch and Cayse Copeland will continue their careers as scholarship players at Northeast Mississippi Community College; and
WHEREAS, Baldwyn High School credits its championship to the contributions and dedication of numerous individuals, including the coaching staff composed of Head Coach Jimmy Dillinger and Assistant Coaches Michael Gray, Gregg Tucker, Jeff Palmer and Neal Allen; Principal Ronnie Hill; Trainer Matt Weisenberger; Band Director Billy Morton; Cheerleader Sponsors Amy Pitts and Susanne Trollinger and the cheerleaders; Equipment Manager James Brigman; Managers Jordan Wilson, Jonathan Childs, James Roberts, Daniel Craig, Clayton Gray, Tucker Jenkins, Corbin Scott and Garrett Gray; and Videographer Matt Palmer; and
WHEREAS, the coaching staff won several awards, including State 2A Coaching Staff of the Year, Region 1-2A Coaching Staff of the Year and Daily Journal Coaching Staff of the Year; and
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize accomplishments by a squad of dedicated student athletes and coaches that have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Baldwyn High School "Bearcats" Football Team and Head Coach Jimmy Dillinger for winning the 2008 MHSAA Class 2A State Championship, their first state football championship in school history, and for their 2008 14-1 season, and extend to the team, coaches and parents our best wishes for success in their future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Dillinger and the Baldwyn High School "Bearcats" Football Team, forwarded to Principal Ronnie Hill, and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
