House Resolution 9

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE RICHTON HIGH SCHOOL REBELS BASEBALL TEAM FOR WINNING BACK-TO-BACK STATE 2A CHAMPIONSHIPS IN 2007 AND 2008.

WHEREAS, the Richton High School Baseball Team, led by Coach Brandon Davis, won back-to-back state baseball championships in 2007 and 2008; and

WHEREAS, the Rebels defeated Hamilton High School in the State Championship series two games to one to claim their second championship; and

WHEREAS, these well-deserved champions achieved an amazing 26-7 record in the 2008 season and an astounding 2-1 record in the championship series; and

WHEREAS, during the South State Championship game, the Rebels used a total of five pitchers including two brothers, Jordan Cochran who got the save, and Joel Cochran getting the win after 12 innings; and

WHEREAS, during the South State Championship, the Rebels had two players hit multiple home runs with Chantse Edwards hitting three home runs and Tilur Smith hitting two home runs that either tied the game for the Rebels or enabled the Rebels to take the lead; and

WHEREAS, JaCoby Jones received both wins in the State Championship series against Hamilton High School, by starting and finishing Game One and relieving Chantse Edwards in Game Three; and

WHEREAS, the team had a remarkable combined batting average of .400 in 2008; and

WHEREAS, individual accomplishments of team members include Chantse Edwards, who was the state individual home run leader, with 14 home runs; and

WHEREAS, this season, the 2008 Richton High School Rebels roster includes: Chase Williamson, JaCoby Jones, Tilur Smith, Chantse Edwards, David Walley, Myles Mayo, Matthew Rylee, Allen Sullivan, Jarrett Mills, Taylor Moss, Cameron Mills, Taler Smith, Bill Rylee, Hunter Meadows, Kane Edwards, Shawn Wiseman, Gregory Smith, Chase Walley, Adam Hamrac, Joel Cochran, Jordan Cochran, Zach Crane, David Evans, Zack Williams and Nick Kitchens; and

WHEREAS, the team was led to victory by Head Coach Brandon Davis; Managers Adam Shoemake and Pleas Sumrall; and Assistant Coaches Andy Pittman, Bryan Bishop, Joey Anderson, Dalton Bradley and Doug Henley; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize the accomplishments of our young student athletes:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby recognize and commend the Richton High School Rebels Baseball Team for winning their second State 2A Championship and extend best wishes for continued success in all of their future athletic and academic endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the Principal of Richton High School, Head Coach Brandon Davis and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
