Senate Resolution 12

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING WEST LAUDERDALE HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR CATCHER CODY FREEMAN FOR BEING NAMED TO THE LOUISVILLE SLUGGER PRESEASON ALL-AMERICAN HIGH SCHOOL TEAM.

WHEREAS, West Lauderdale High School Senior Cody Freeman has been named to the prestigious Louisville Slugger Preseason All-American High School squad; and

WHEREAS, Cody Freeman, a Senior Catcher for the "Knights" who has signed with Mississippi State University, was one of only 13 catchers nationwide to pick up the honor from Louisville Slugger. He was also one of just two Mississippians to be named a first-team, All-American -- with Outfielder/Pitcher Wendell Fairley of George County being the other; and

WHEREAS, in 2006, Cody set a school record at West Lauderdale High School for single-season home runs (16) and RBIs (60) and had an on-base percentage of better than .800 for Coach Jerry Boatner; and

WHEREAS, three other Mississippians were named second-team, All-Americans: Pitcher Matt Warren of Petal High School, Outfielder Anthony Doss of Northwest Rankin, and Shortstop/Pitcher Michael Busby of Porter's Chapel Academy of Vicksburg; and

WHEREAS, this is the 11th year Louisville Slugger has sponsored high school All-American teams. The squad was chosen by the staff of Collegiate Baseball and the athletes were honored in the January 26 edition of the newspaper; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this achievement by a student athlete who has brought honor to his school, his community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate West Lauderdale High School Senior Catcher Cody Freeman for being named to the Louisville Slugger Preseason All-American High School First Team, and extend to him the best wishes of the Senate for success in his collegiate career and future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Cody Freeman and his parents and be forwarded to the Lauderdale County Board of Education and the Capitol Press Corps.
