A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING THE MEMBERS, STAFF, VOLUNTEERS AND DONORS OF THE MISSISSIPPI 4-H ORGANIZATION ON THE OCCASION OF ITS 100TH ANNIVERSARY.
WHEREAS, National 4-H is the largest youth-serving organization in the nation, reaching over 6.5 million children and youth; and
WHEREAS, Mississippi 4-H is recognized as one of the original 4-H states having received the first federal support for Rural Youth Organizations, the origin of 4-H, on December 7, 1907, by way of William "Corn Club" Smith, in Holmes County, Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, since 1907, Mississippi 4-H has set about the important business of providing purpose and leadership to the values, benefits and meaning of the four "H's"...Head, Heart, Hands and Health; and
WHEREAS, Mississippi 4-H has played a leading role in preparing hundreds of thousands of Mississippi youth to lead meaningful, successful and productive lives; and
WHEREAS, Mississippi 4-H has by way of the 4-H motto "To Make the Best Better" for a full century taken our most valuable resource, our youth, and worked to make them successful leaders of homes, businesses, communities, our state and world; and
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we join the 82,000 members of Mississippi 4-H, along with 6,500 adult 4-H volunteers, in celebrating the Centennial Anniversary of this traditional youth service organization:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby recognize the members, staff, volunteers and donors of the Mississippi 4-H as they continue into a new century of youth service, retaining the tradition, value, respect and objectives of success from their first century of most admirable service to our state, nation and world, and we commemorate the Centennial Anniversary of the Mississippi 4-H and in so doing support and urge them and the youth of our state toward greater objectives and greater successes.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to representatives of Mississippi 4-H and be made available to the Capitol Press Corp.
