A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING SAM PROVENZA FOR HIS DISTINGUISHED SERVICE TO THE VETERANS' HOME PURCHASE BOARD OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI.
WHEREAS, Sam Provenza is a decorated veteran of the United States Army Air Corps, having been a flight engineer on a B-17 bomber during World War II and having flown numerous missions over the European theater; and
WHEREAS, Sam Provenza had a successful entrepreneurial career as a Pepsi Cola bottler and distributor; and
WHEREAS, Sam Provenza has served as a volunteer and has held offices on many civic organizations such as the Washington County Convention and Visitors Bureau, St. Jude Children's Hospital, Washington County Economic Development District and Washington County Red Cross Crime Stoppers; and
WHEREAS, Sam Provenza is a charter member of the Seagull Club established at Jim's Café in Greenville, Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, Sam Provenza served on the Board of Directors of the Veterans' Home Purchase Board from 1974-2006 and as its Chairman from 1988-2006; and
WHEREAS, during his period of service, Mr. Provenza's leadership, dedication, knowledge and commitment to those he served enabled the Veterans' Home Purchase Board to effectively and efficiently provide funds to Mississippi military veterans for the purchase of homes; and
WHEREAS, members of the board have expressed their high regard for his record of service with the organization; and
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize the meritorious service of this outstanding citizen of our state:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend Sam Provenza for his leadership and distinguished service as a member and Chairman of the Veterans' Home Purchase Board and for his faithful performance of the duties and obligations imposed upon that office.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to Sam Provenza and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
