A RESOLUTION COMMENDING REPRESENTATIVE JAMES "JIM" C. SIMPSON, JR., FOR HIS LEGISLATIVE LEGACY AND CONGRATULATING HIM UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT FROM THE MISSISSIPPI HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.
WHEREAS, Representative James "Jim" C. Simpson, Jr., an honored and cherished member of the Mississippi House of Representatives, will make the 2007 legislative year his last legislative year when he retires; and
WHEREAS, Representative Simpson, a native of Harrison County, was reared in Pass Christian and after graduating from high school, he attended the University of Southern Mississippi where he received a bachelor of science degree in finance; and
WHEREAS, after receiving his bachelor of science degree, Representative Simpson attended American University Law School, located in Washington, D.C., where he earned his doctor of jurisprudence; and
WHEREAS, the Honorable Jim Simpson, Jr., was initially elected in November 1994 from a field of two candidates by the citizens of District 120, which consists of Harrison County; and
WHEREAS, due to his outstanding representation of his district, Representative Simpson has served District 120 for 14 productive and dynamic years; and
WHEREAS, Representative Simpson has utilized the wisdom and experience that he has accrued over his 14 years to guide him in his leadership duties as Chairman of the Local and Private and Judiciary A Committees; and
WHEREAS, in addition to his chairmanships, Representative Simpson has served on the following committees: Ways and Means, Education, Public Health, Public Utilities, Ports and Harbors, Marine Resources, Joint House-Senate Committee to Investigate State Offices and Insurance; and
WHEREAS, in addition to his committed service to the House of Representatives, Representative Simpson is also a practicing attorney who is known for helping those in need; and
WHEREAS, Representative Simpson, a family man, is a strong man of faith and is an active member of the Episcopal Church; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to honor and recognize one who has represented District 120 as well as this legislative body with honor, respect and dignity:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the Honorable James "Jim" C. Simpson, Jr., for his legislative legacy and congratulate him upon the occasion of his retirement from the Mississippi House of Representatives.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Representative Jim Simpson, Jr., and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
