House Resolution 97

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE LIFE AND CONTRIBUTIONS OF MR.  BARR BROWN AND EXPRESSING OUR SYMPATHY UPON HIS PASSING.

     WHEREAS, a wonderful husband, father, son, brother, friend and businessman was lost to the Mississippi and Louisiana communities when Mr. Barr Brown lost his life in an airplane crash on December 10, 2006; and

     WHEREAS, although Mr. Brown was born in Natchez, Mississippi, on September 14, 1956, to Jack and Martha Brown, he held roots in both Louisiana and Mississippi during his life; and

     WHEREAS, after graduating from Cathedral High School in Natchez, he went on to play football at Louisiana State University (LSU) on a football scholarship; and

     WHEREAS, because his talents were not limited to athletics, after graduating from LSU, he accepted a job at one of the "Big Eight" accounting firms, Arthur Young; and

     WHEREAS, after leaving Arthur Young, Mr. Brown established a lucrative string of career moves including serving as CFO for Kasler Corporation in San Bernardino, California, financial and corporate development positions in Palmetto, Louisiana, Equity Corporation International in Natchez, Mississippi, and Louisiana Seafood; and

     WHEREAS, he had recently retired from the LHC Group, as partner, senior vice president and CFAO to become the owner of Doe's Steakhouse of Lafayette; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Barr's greatest loves were his family, work and Trinity Episcopal Day School; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Barr spent many days, nights and weekends on the fields, playgrounds and hallways of Trinity Episcopal Day School; and

     WHEREAS, his love of the school was not only evidenced by his presence at all the sporting events and family activities, he evidenced his love by giving $60,000.00 to build a state-of-the-art playground surface; and

     WHEREAS, to cherish his memory, he leaves his wife, Beth; sons, Cole, Chase and Jack; stepson, Preston; sisters, RoAnn and  Jackie; nephews, Steve, Ben and Jason; niece, Eden; mother and father-in-law, Eden and Charles Cooper; and a host of other relatives and friends; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend Mississippi citizens who touch the lives of many in their community, as well as those outside the state:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the life and contributions of Mr. Barr Brown and express our sympathy upon his passing.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the family of Mr. Barr Brown and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
