House Resolution 71

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING MIKE HENDERSHOT FOR BEING NAMED THE 2006 SOUTH SECTIONAL COACH OF THE YEAR.

WHEREAS, Coach Mike Hendershot, who teaches at Scott Central Attendance Center, has been awarded the 2006 South Sectional Coach of the Year Award for the sport of boys powerlifting; and

WHEREAS, this prestigious award was given to Coach Hendershot by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS), which is the official national coaches association of the NFHS; and

WHEREAS, in addition to being named the 2006 South Sectional Coach of the Year, Coach Hendershot is also a deserving finalist for the National Coach of the Year Award in boys powerlifting; and

WHEREAS, Coach Hendershot, who is no stranger to having accolades given to him due to his outstanding coaching abilities, was also selected as the Mississippi High School Activities Association 2006-2007 Powerlifting Coach of the Year; and

WHEREAS, Coach Hendershot, who is a proud Mississippi State graduate, has won various championships during his tenure as a powerlifting coach such as the following: six District Championships (2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2005 and 2006), one North State Championship (2003), two South State Championships (2005 and 2006) and two State Championships (2003 and 2006); and

WHEREAS, in addition to coaching, Coach Hendershot touches the lives of his students as he molds their minds to become productive and respectful citizens while simultaneously imparting academic knowledge to them; and

WHEREAS, Coach Hendershot has been lovingly supported in all his endeavors by his wonderful wife, Pamela Gaught Hendershot, and their three delightful children, David, Holly and Jack; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize great Mississippians such as Coach Hendershot, who has not only brought great honor to Scott Central Attendance Center by receiving this prominent national award, but also great honor to the state as a whole:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Coach Mike Hendershot for being named the 2006 South Sectional Coach of the Year for the sport of boys powerlifting, and extend warmest wishes for continued success in all of his future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Coach Mike Hendershot, Scott Central Attendance Center and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
