A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE PEARL HIGH SCHOOL PIRATES SOCCER TEAM FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING 2006-2007 SEASON AND FOR WINNING THEIR THIRD CONSECUTIVE CLASS 4A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
WHEREAS, the Pearl High School Pirates Soccer Team finished the 2006-2007 season with an outstanding record of 19-6-1, and winning the Class 4A State Championship; and
WHEREAS, the Pirates 3-2 victory over the Florence Eagles led them to their third consecutive and their fifth State 4A title in their seventh consecutive championship game, having won the coveted title previously in 2001, 2002, 2005 and 2006; and
WHEREAS, with seven seniors, Josh Beam, Kyle Collins, Manny Garcia, Trippe Shutte (manager), David Slowik, Kyle Thompson and Dusty Wilson, all of whom have been offered college scholarships, the Pirates have received several individual honors, including the naming of Chris Williams, as a member to the First Team All-State; the selection of David Slowik to the Second Team All-State; and the naming of David Slowik, Kyle Thompson and Dusty Wilson (alternate) to the All-Star Team; and
WHEREAS, the Pirates have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Andrew Kivlan, who has broadened the Pirates knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and
WHEREAS, Coach Kivlan, in his first year as the Pirates coach, continues the legacy of superior play and true sportsmanship in his ability to produce high caliber players and plays, as evidenced by his ability to lead the team's successful bid to win its third consecutive state championship title; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state, who are its future:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Pearl High School Pirates Soccer Team and their coach, Andrew Kivlan, for their outstanding 2006-2007 season, for winning the Class 4A State Championship and for displaying tireless devotion to their athletic endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Pearl High School, Coach Andrew Kivlan and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
