House Resolution 50

A resolution commending the Cleveland Volunteer Fire Department for its dedicated service of over 86 years to the people of the City of Cleveland, Mississippi, and for being the first and only all-volunteer fire department to achieve a Class FIVE insurance rating.

     WHEREAS, the Cleveland Volunteer Fire Department, originally organized in August 1920, has served the citizens of the City of Cleveland for over 86 years; and

     WHEREAS, through the selfless acts of its membership, the Cleveland Volunteer Fire Department has carried out a successful program of fire prevention and firefighting, which has resulted in the preservation of lives and property since its inception; and

     WHEREAS, the membership of the Cleveland Volunteer Fire Department is comprised solely of volunteers who, through their own acts of bravery, dedication, pride and sense of community, exemplify the values and character that has allowed the City of Cleveland to continue to grow and prosper; and

     WHEREAS, in 1966, the Cleveland Volunteer Fire Department through its exceptional performance of its duties, was the first all-volunteer fire department in the State of Mississippi to earn a Class Six fire insurance rating; and

     WHEREAS, on November 1, 2006, through its membership’s continued commitment to excellence, the Cleveland Volunteer Fire Department has achieved the distinction of being the first and only all-volunteer fire department in the State of Mississippi to earn a coveted Class Five insurance rating; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend superior service and dedication to the State of Mississippi and its citizens as exemplified by the firemen and personnel of the Cleveland Volunteer Fire Department:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the Cleveland Volunteer Fire Department for its many years of outstanding service and unselfish devotion to the City of Cleveland and its citizens and extend warmest wishes for continued success and safety.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the Cleveland Volunteer Fire Department, the City of Cleveland, The Bolivar Commercial, The Cleveland News Leader and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
