House Resolution 27

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE LIFE OF BERNICE MOORE GAMBLIN AND EXPRESSING DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HER FAMILY AND FRIENDS UPON HER PASSING.

     WHEREAS, the community of Itta Bena, Mississippi, suffered a loss when Mrs. Bernice Moore Gamblin passed on December 19, 2006; and

     WHEREAS, she was born as the older of twin daughters to the late Mr. and Mrs. Scott Moore on March 22, 1930, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, she received her early education at Third Ward Elementary School and graduated high school from Eureka High School; and 

     WHEREAS, after graduating from high school, she attained her bachelor of science degree from Alcorn A & M College and a master of science degree from Mississippi Valley State University; and 

     WHEREAS, because her passion was music, she pursued further studies in voice and piano at universities in Oklahoma and Wisconsin; and 

     WHEREAS, throughout her life, she passed her knowledge of music on to the students at Alcorn College, Claiborne County Public Schools and Leflore County Public Schools; and

     WHEREAS, in addition to her musical passions, she was socially active as a charter member of the Delta Epsilon Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and the Alpha Kappa Mu Honor Society at Alcorn College; and

     WHEREAS, her love of Jesus was nurtured at New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church of Itta Bena, where she was a musician for several years; and

     WHEREAS, to cherish her memory, she leaves three daughters, Dr. Carolyn G. Eubanks (Melvin), Mrs. Eunice Roots (Marion), and Mrs. Anne Gamblin White (Derrick); three sisters; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and loving friends; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to commend the lives of fine Mississippians who enrich the lives of our youth:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the life of Mrs. Bernice Moore Gamblin and express deepest sympathy to her family and friends upon her passing.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the family of Mrs. Bernice Moore Gamblin and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
