A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE FOREST HIGH SCHOOL BEARCATS BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM AND COACH ROY PINKSTON FOR WINNING THE CLASS 3A MHSAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
WHEREAS, on Thursday, March 8, 2007, the Forest High School Bearcats Boys Basketball Team beat Carthage 70-50 in a "battle for bragging rights" game to win the Mississippi Class 3A Mississippi High School Activities Association State Championship at the Coliseum in Jackson, Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, finishing the season with an impressive 32-4 record, the Bearcats team not only lay claim to the state title, but also made school history by winning its first state basketball championship; and
WHEREAS, in pursuit of the gold during the entire season, the Bearcats were a force to be reckoned with on the court as evidenced by its having won the Scott County Championship, the Division 5 3A Championship, the South Mississippi 3A Championship and the Central Mississippi Classic Championship; and
WHEREAS, the Bearcats were superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Roy Pinkston and Assistant Coach Shelton Thomas, who have broadened the players' knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and
WHEREAS, several of the Bearcats have been recognized for their hard work, dedication and superior play this season, including the naming of Vincente Parker as most valuable player; the selection of Rod Lofton as most valuable player for the Division VI and South State Tournaments; and the naming of Rod Lofton, Ahmad Summers, Jeffery Crump and Robert Lee Williams as members of the All-Division Team; and
WHEREAS, the Forest High School Bearcats have developed a winning and cooperative spirit and a superb degree of sportsmanship and their activities and attitude reflect great credit upon the individual players and their coaches and bring great honor to Forest High School; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize the special accomplishments of this group of student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Forest High School Bearcats Boys Basketball Team for winning the Class 3A MHSAA State Championship and extend warmest wishes for continued success in all of their future athletic and academic endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Forest High School, Head Coach Roy Pinkston, Assistant Coach Shelton Thomas and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
