A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF JUDGE VERNELL "ANDY" ANDERSON, AND EXPRESSING DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS UPON HIS PASSING.
WHEREAS, Judge Vernell "Andy" Anderson departed this earthly life on Friday, July 7, 2006, at the age of 83, to enter into eternal rest with his Heavenly Father, causing great sorrow and loss to his family and friends; and
WHEREAS, a retired cable repairman for South Central Bell Telephone Company and a 2003 retiree as Stone County Justice Court Judge, where he served ably for 31 years, Judge Anderson brought honor and distinction to Stone County; and
WHEREAS, an Army veteran of World War II, who served in the Signal Corps Division with overseas service in Japan, Judge Anderson was no stranger to public service or personal sacrifice as he previously served as an auxiliary policeman with the City of Wiggins Police Department and volunteered with the Wiggins Fire Department; and
WHEREAS, selfless in all of his undertakings, Judge Anderson was a member of the Mississippi Justice Court Judges Association, and earned 558 hours of continuing education and 96 hours of national certification as judge through his studies with the University of Mississippi's Mississippi Judicial College; and
WHEREAS, this outstanding community leader was a member of the Wiggins Masonic Lodge No. 481, F&AM, Past Worthy Patron of Miriam Chapter No. 67 Order of the Eastern Star, Scottish Rite member, Shriner and member of Communication Workers of America and Telephone Pioneer Club; and
WHEREAS, an active member of the First Baptist Church of Wiggins, where he served as Sunday School teacher, usher and R.A. Leader and as a Boy Scout Leader, Judge Anderson's performance and accomplishments served as a source of pride to all Stone Countians; and
WHEREAS, though he has traversed the river of life to now stand on golden heavenly shores, the legacy of his service will live forever in the hearts of his survivors: wife of 60 years, Pearl Holston Anderson; children, Michael, Sherry, Billy, Bobby, Jackie and Randall; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to commend the life of such a noble and devout individual as Judge Anderson, whose life was a testament of service and Christian courtesy to his fellowman:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend the life and legacy of Judge Vernell "Andy" Anderson and express deepest sympathy to his family and friends upon his passing.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the family of Judge Anderson and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
