A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE LIFE, ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND SERVICE OF DORLOS BO ROBINSON UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AS PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSIONER FOR THE NORTHERN DISTRICT OF MISSISSIPPI.
WHEREAS, Dorlos Bo Robinson, born January 6, 1935, in Hamilton, Mississippi, to the late Leon Lamar Robinson and Avalene Thompson Robinson, will retire from service to the people of Northern Mississippi as Public Service Commissioner after 16 years of commendable service; and
WHEREAS, a 1952 graduate of Hamilton High School, Mr. Robinson's dedication and loyalty to his country became evident by his service with the United States Air Force as a military policeman at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, and Manzano Air Force Base in Albuquerque, New Mexico, from 1953 to 1955 and subsequent service with the Mississippi National Guard from 1955 to 1964; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Robinson's commitment to excellence is reflected in the numerous positions of immense responsibility that have been bestowed upon him, including: Sheriff of Monroe County, Monroe County Tax Collector, member of the Mississippi House of Representatives, Mississippi Public Service Commission, appointment to the Governor's Task Force on Safe Drinking Water and Waste Water, the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners Water Committee, the Southeastern Association of Utility Commissioners, the Public Education Forum of Mississippi and the Governor's School Task Force Program; and
WHEREAS, being entrusted with such monumental duties on the state and national levels, Mr. Robinson's vote of confidence and trustworthiness began with his local affiliations before spreading abroad, with such entities as Robinson Farms, Hamilton Gin and Cotton Company, Cottonhouse, Inc., M&R Farms and R&W Land Company; and
WHEREAS, additionally his community service is evidenced through his duties as a member of the Monroe Bank and Trust (BancorpSouth) Advisory Board, founder of Hamilton Appreciation Day, founder of the Christmas Decoration Committee, Director of First South Production Credit Association, President of Southern Ginner's Association and board member of the Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Robinson, as a member of the Hamilton United Methodist Church, makes his light shine radiantly with his service to others as he engages in various organizations within the church, including: Sunday School teacher, President of the Christian Men's Club, Chairman of the Council on Ministry Board, Pastor Parish Committee, Building Committee, Cemetery Committee and choir member; and
WHEREAS, his Christian duties have also afforded him the privilege of serving as a Methodist Lay Speaker, a role he has filled for 23 years, traveling to Buena Vista United Methodist Church and Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church each First Sunday as worship leader; and
WHEREAS, throughout all of his endeavors, political, social, civic, religious and community based, Mr. Robinson has maintained the constant and growing support of his family: wife, Betty Irvin Robinson; children, Tony Michael (Jean) and Deandra; eight grandchildren, Paige, Jomie, Josh, Jade, Alex, Kyle, Cory and Jason; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend excellence when displayed by one of the state's most highly respected and inspirational individuals as Mr. Robinson, whose life and service to the citizens of Mississippi have proven themselves to display the quality and moral fabric becoming of a natural leader:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend the remarkable and dedicated public service and congratulate the achievements of Dorlos Bo Robinson for his service to the State of Mississippi and its plethora of citizens upon the occasion of his retirement from the Mississippi Public Service Commission and extend warmest wishes for God's continual blessings and success in all of his future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. Robinson and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
