AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 71-1-21, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO PROHIBIT THE EMPLOYMENT OF CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF EIGHTEEN AFTER 10:00 P.M. ON SCHOOL NIGHTS DURING THE SCHOLASTIC YEAR; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. Section 71-1-21, Mississippi Code of 1972, is amended as follows:
71-1-21. (1) No boy or girl over fourteen (14) years of age and under sixteen (16) years shall be permitted to work in any mill, cannery, workshop, factory, or manufacturing establishment more than eight (8) hours in one (1) day, or more than forty-four (44) hours in any one (1) week, or be employed in or detained in any such establishment between the hours of 7:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.
(2) A child under eighteen (18) years of age may not work in any employment establishment after 10:00 p.m. on any night immediately preceding a school day during the scholastic year.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2007.
