AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF RANKIN COUNTY TO PURCHASE RADAR SPEED DETECTION EQUIPMENT FOR USE BY THE SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT OF THE COUNTY IN THE ENFORCEMENT OF SPEED LIMITS ON THE ROADS, STREETS AND HIGHWAYS OF THE COUNTY OUTSIDE THE CORPORATE LIMITS OF ANY INCORPORATED MUNICIPALITY; TO PROVIDE THAT FINES COLLECTED FOR SPEEDING VIOLATIONS THROUGH THE USE OF SUCH RADAR SPEED DETECTION EQUIPMENT SHALL BE DEPOSITED INTO THE STATE GENERAL FUND; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. (1) The Board of Supervisors of Rankin County may expend out of any available funds of the county, an amount that the board determines is sufficient for the purchase of and use by the sheriff's department of the county of radar speed detection equipment. If the board of supervisors authorizes the expenditure of funds for this purpose, then the Sheriff of Rankin County and any duly sworn deputy sheriff of the county may operate and use the equipment to enforce the motor vehicle speed limits on any public road, street or highway within the county outside the corporate limits of any incorporated municipality.
(2) All fines collected for motor vehicle speeding violations resulting from the use of radar speed detection equipment as authorized under subsection (1) of this section shall be forwarded to the State Treasurer and deposited into the State General Fund.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
