Senate Concurrent Resolution 516

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING MISS CAITLYN TERRELL SMITH FOR WINNING THE 2007 MISSISSIPPI JUNIOR MISS TITLE.

     WHEREAS, aspiring attorney/broadcast journalist Caitlyn Terrell Smith, Lowndes County Junior Miss, won the coveted 2007 Mississippi Junior Miss title during the July 29, 2006, final night of competition at the Temple Theatre in Meridian, Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, Caitlyn smiled broadly as she accepted the Mississippi Junior Miss medallion from Virginia Fox, Mississippi's 2006 Junior Miss; and

     WHEREAS, she is the daughter of Representative Jeffrey and Dr. Laura T. Smith of Columbus, Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, a shower of confetti fell from the ceiling as the 40 other contestants rushed toward Caitlyn, giving her big hugs and kisses, and extending their congratulations; and

     WHEREAS, in addition to the overall state title, Caitlyn received a $9,000.00 scholarship from the Mississippi Junior Miss Scholarship Foundation and a $1,000.00 scholarship from Mississippi Coca-Cola Bottlers Association.  She also received the overall talent award, a $1,000.00 scholarship, and she was a double-preliminary winner in scholastics and fitness, $500.00 scholarships for each; and

     WHEREAS, the program is held under the auspices of the Mississippi Junior Miss, Inc; and

     WHEREAS, Miss Smith will go on in June 2007 to compete in the America's Junior Miss national finals in Mobile, Alabama; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this talented young Mississippi citizen who has brought honor to her parents, her community and her state:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Miss Caitlyn Terrell Smith for winning the coveted 2007 Mississippi Junior Miss Title, and extend to her and her parents the best wishes of the Legislature as she continues her competition and represents the State of Mississippi.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Caitlyn and her parents and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
