A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE OUTSTANDING CIVIC AND HUMANITARIAN INVOLVEMENT OF GRIFFIN NORQUIST, JR., CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER OF THE BANK OF YAZOO CITY, MISSISSIPPI.
WHEREAS, Griffin Norquist, Jr., Chief Executive Officer of the Bank of Yazoo City, Mississippi, has built a statewide reputation for civic and humanitarian involvement; and
WHEREAS, Norquist has served Delta Council as President, Vice President, Membership Chairman and Chairman of its Highways and Transportation Committee; and
WHEREAS, he is a 1969 graduate of the University of Mississippi and life member of the University of Mississippi Alumni Association. Norquist is a graduate of the Graduate School of Banking at Louisiana State University. He is a past chairman of the MBA State Legislative Committee and formerly served on the Financial Institutions Committee for the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta; and
WHEREAS, his civic involvement includes service as a past president of the Yazoo County Chamber of Commerce, the Yazoo City Lions Club, the Yazoo County Red Cross, the Catholic Foundation of Mississippi and the Yazoo County Chapter of the University of Mississippi Alumni Association. He is past chairman of the Federal Prison Project for Yazoo County and currently Chairman of the Greater Yazoo Growth and Industrial Foundation. He won the "Spirit of Yazoo" Award in 1993 given by the Yazoo Chamber of Commerce and South Central Bell; and
WHEREAS, Griffin was named to participate in the 1977 Mississippi Economic Council's nationally recognized leadership program for young leaders under 35 years old. That year Governor Haley Barbour and Senator Joseph C. Thomas were his classmates; and
WHEREAS, Griffin served on the Inaugural Committee for Governor Haley Barbour in 2004 and commenced the preinaugural events by giving the keynote address and introducing the newly elected Governor and his wife to the hometown folks at the Yazoo City National Guard Armory on Thursday, January 8, 2004; and
WHEREAS, Norquist and his wife, Jane, have two children; and
WHEREAS, Griffin's civic and charitable contributions to many non-for-profit organizations in Mississippi is a matter of record, both through support from the bank and his personal contributions, many of which are anonymous; and
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize the many years of civic and humanitarian contributions of this Mississippian who serves as a role model for all citizens of our state:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the outstanding civic and humanitarian involvement of Griffin Norquist, Jr., Chief Executive Officer of the Bank of Yazoo City, Mississippi, and extend to him and his family the best wishes of the Mississippi Senate in their future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Griffin Norquist, Jr., and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
