A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION DESIGNATING THE WEEK OF APRIL 2-8, 2006, AS "JUNIOR AUXILIARY WEEK" IN MISSISSIPPI IN SUPPORT OF THE HUMANITARIAN AND CHARITABLE PROGRAMS OF THIS VOLUNTEER ORGANIZATION.
WHEREAS, the Junior Auxiliary Chapters in the State of Mississippi, members of the 65-year-old National Association of Junior Auxiliaries, Inc., represent a serious endeavor on the part of women to be active and constructive participants in their communities and to assume responsible leadership in meeting the needs of their communities; and
WHEREAS, the mission of the National Association of Junior Auxiliaries, Inc., is to encourage member chapters to render charitable services which are beneficial to the general public, with particular emphasis on children, and to cooperate with other organizations performing similar services; and
WHEREAS, Junior Auxiliary Chapters throughout Mississippi have been particularly active in Hurricane Katrina relief projects, which include volunteering thousands of hands-on service hours for general welfare programs and special needs. These programs provide clothing, food and medical care free of charge to Mississippi's neediest children, working closely with teachers, school nurses, counselors and social workers in our state, and reaching out to children and families in need; and
WHEREAS, the Junior Auxiliary Chapters of Mississippi work actively to perform the mission of the National Association of Junior Auxiliaries, Inc., in their communities and in the State of Mississippi, and we appreciate their efforts:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby designate the week of April 2-8, 2006, as "Junior Auxiliary Week" in Mississippi, as sponsored by the National Association of Junior Auxiliaries, Inc., and urge all citizens, all civic and fraternal groups, all news media, and other community organizations to join in the salute to Junior Auxiliary volunteers who have been an important presence in our state since 1941.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be made available to the Junior Auxiliary Chapters throughout Mississippi and the Capitol Press Corps.
