Senate Concurrent Resolution 627

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION TO CREATE A STUDY COMMITTEE FOR THE PURPOSE OF STUDYING THE FEASIBILITY OF ESTABLISHING A CIVIL RIGHTS MUSEUM AND A NATIONAL BLACK SPORTS HALL OF FAME IN THE CITY OF JACKSON, MISSISSIPPI.

WHEREAS, the Legislature finds that there is a need to closely examine and further study the feasibility of establishing a civil rights museum and a national black sports hall of fame in the City of Jackson, Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That:

There is hereby created a study committee for the purpose of studying the feasibility of establishing a civil rights museum and a national black sports hall of fame in the City of Jackson, Mississippi. The study committee shall be composed of the following:

(a) The Executive Director of the State Department of Archives and History, or his designee;

(b) The Chairman of the Senate Public Property Committee, the Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee and three (3) members of the Senate to be appointed by the Lieutenant Governor;

(c) The Chairman of the House Public Property Committee, the Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee and three (3) members of the House of Representatives to be appointed by the Speaker of the House; and

Members of the committee who are not legislators shall not receive any compensation or per diem, but may receive travel reimbursement provided under Section 25-3-41. Legislative members of the committee shall receive per diem, travel or other expenses, if authorized by the Management Committees of the Senate and the House of Representatives, from the contingent expense funds of their respective houses in the same amounts as provided for committee meetings when the Legislature is not in session; provide that no per diem or expense for attending meetings of the committee shall be paid while the Legislature is in session.

The study committee shall be dissolved on January 1, 2007.
