A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE LIFE AND PUBLIC SERVICE OF FORMER DEPUTY INSURANCE COMMISSIONER RON HANNA AND EXPRESSING THE SYMPATHY OF THE LEGISLATURE.
WHEREAS, Ronald E. Hanna, 55, died in Pensacola, Florida, on February 25, 2006; and
WHEREAS, a native of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, he attended public school and graduated from Hattiesburg High School in 1968; and
WHEREAS, he graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with a degree in communications and began his career as an assistant to then U.S. Representative Thad Cochran; and
WHEREAS, in 1975, he became the first Executive Director for the Mississippi Trial Lawyers Association; and
WHEREAS, he went to work at the Mississippi Department of Insurance in 1976 and served as Deputy Commissioner from 1995 until 2000; and
WHEREAS, after retiring from the State of Mississippi, he accepted the position of Association Secretary and Manager of the high risk property insurance program known as the Alabama Insurance Underwriting Association in Foley, Alabama; and
WHEREAS, he initiated a number of innovative changes to the "beach pool" in Alabama which improved the efficiency and system operation of the program; and
WHEREAS, Ron spent more than half his life serving as a bridge between consumers and the insurance industry; and
WHEREAS, he was married to the former Gloria Jean Robinson of Utica, Mississippi, and enjoyed many memories together in their travels and daily activities; and
WHEREAS, he was very involved in his church at First Baptist of Gulf Shores where he was a committed member of the church choir, taught Sunday School, and served on a number of church committees; and
WHEREAS, it is with great sadness that we note the passing of this model citizen whose leadership and contributions to his state are a matter of record:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend the life and public service of Ron Hanna, and express to his family the sympathy of the Legislature on his passing.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to the surviving family of Ronald E. Hanna and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
