A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND EXPRESSING APPRECIATION TO DOCTORS JIM C. BARNETT, SIDNEY W. BONDURANT AND CHESTER W. MASTERSON FOR THEIR SINCERE EFFORTS IN HELPING MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES MAINTAIN GOOD HEALTH.
WHEREAS, March 30 is observed around the world as National Doctors Day; and
WHEREAS, Doctors Jim C. Barnett, Sidney W. Bondurant and Chester W. Masterson are distinguished members of the Mississippi House of Representatives; and
WHEREAS, the first Doctors Day observance was March 30, 1933, in Winder, Georgia, when Eudora Brown Almond, wife of Dr. Cha Almond, created the idea when she celebrated the anniversary date of the first use of general anesthetic in surgery; and
WHEREAS, the United States House of Representatives adopted a resolution commemorating Doctors Day on March 30, 1958; and
WHEREAS, in 1990, legislation was introduced into the United States House of Representatives and United States Senate to establish a National Doctors Day; and
WHEREAS, following overwhelming approval by the House and Senate, then President George Bush signed a resolution designating March 30 as National Doctors Day, resulting in celebration of the first National Doctors Day in 1991; and
WHEREAS, we are blessed to have Doctors Jim C. Barnett, Sidney W. Bondurant and Chester W. Masterson as fellow members of the House of Representatives; and
WHEREAS, these honorable men have given many volunteer hours of advice and service to the members of the House of Representatives in their efforts to ensure health and well-being; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to show appreciation to its fellow members:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we commend and express appreciation to Doctors Jim C. Barnett, Sidney W. Bondurant and Chester W. Masterson for their sincere efforts in helping members of the House of Representatives maintain good health.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Doctors Jim C. Barnett, Sidney W. Bondurant and Chester W. Masterson and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
