House Resolution 77

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE LIFE OF MRS. BERTHA MAE PAYNE AND EXPRESSING DEEPEST SYMPATHY UPON HER PASSING.

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Bertha Mae Payne was born May 15, 1909, to Mrs. Mary Irene Robinson Ball and Mr. Payton Ball in Holmes County, Mississippi, and departed this life in 2006;

     WHEREAS, a native Mississippian, Mrs. Payne received her educational training at Spring Valley Public Schools in Cruger, Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, her spiritual needs were served while she was a member of New Jerusalem M.B. Church in Itta Bena, Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Payne wed twice during her lifetime; and

     WHEREAS, she was united in holy matrimony to her first husband, Mr. Herbert Williams, in 1928; and

     WHEREAS, later in life, she wed her second husband in holy matrimony, Mr. Jessie Payne, Sr., in 1946; and

     WHEREAS, she is survived by 11 children; and

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Payne was sadly preceded in death by two of her children; and

     WHEREAS, her family and many friends will cherish the memories they experienced with Mrs. Payne while she was on earth; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to commend the lives of Mississippians such as Mrs. Bertha Mae Payne:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the life of Mrs. Bertha Mae Payne and express deepest sympathy to her family and friends upon her passing.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the family of Mrs. Bertha Mae Payne and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
