A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING MISS CAITLYN SMITH UPON WINNING THE TITLE OF LOWNDES COUNTY'S 2007 JUNIOR MISS.
WHEREAS, Miss Caitlyn Smith, daughter of Representative and Mrs. Jeff Smith, captured the title of Lowndes County's 2007 Junior Miss on Saturday, February 18, 2006, at the Joe Cook Auditorium in Columbus, Mississippi, earning her the privilege of competing in the Mississippi Junior Miss 2007 Pageant to be held in Meridian, Mississippi, during July 2007; and
WHEREAS, Caitlyn, who competed with 14 other contestants in the program, placed first in the talent, fitness, self-expression, academics and interview portions of the competition, impressing the judges and the audience with her splendid piano rendition of Rhapsody; and
WHEREAS, Caitlyn, a junior at Heritage Academy, who ranks in the top four of her class academically and who has participated in Academic Betterment Competition through the Mississippi Private School Association for five years, has achieved the admiration and respect of her teachers and peers, placing fifth overall in English for two years and currently participating in dual-enrollment classes at Mississippi University for Women, earning both high school and college credit; and
WHEREAS, Caitlyn is an active member of her youth group at First Baptist Church of Columbus, where she has worked in Vacation Bible School for the past four years and has participated in several music programs demonstrating her vocal talent and her outstanding skill on the piano, a skill acquired and nurtured by ten years of superior instruction from her piano teacher, Mrs. Marilyn Fields; and
WHEREAS, always competitive, Caitlyn is involved with many sports, having played basketball for four years and earning best defensive player in the ninth grade, having been a cheerleader for five years and being selected as an all-star cheerleader in 2004, swimming competitively with Swim Columbus at the young age of four and winning the Mississippi Private School Association outstanding Grades 10 through 12 female swimming awards for the 2004 and 2005 State Mississippi Private School Association swim meets, and participating on the Heritage Academy tennis and track teams:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Miss Caitlyn Smith, daughter of our distinguished colleague from Lowndes County, upon her selection as Lowndes County's 2007 Junior Miss, and extend our best wishes for her success as she competes in the Mississippi Junior Miss 2007 Pageant, and in all of her future endeavors:
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Caitlyn Smith and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
