A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING JERIOUS NORWOOD FOR WINNING THE PRESTIGIOUS CONERLY TROPHY IN RECOGNITION OF BEING THE BEST COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYER IN THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI.
WHEREAS, Jerious Norwood is the 2005 recipient of the prestigious Conerly Trophy recognizing him as the best college football player in Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, Jerious Norwood set the Mississippi State University single game rushing record with 257 rushing yards against Houston; and
WHEREAS, Jerious Norwood also holds the career rushing title at Mississippi State University; and
WHEREAS, Jerious Norwood ended his stellar collegiate career with 204 rushing yards and a four-touchdown performance against archrival Ole Miss in the Bulldogs' decisive victory in the 2005 Egg Bowl; and
WHEREAS, as Jerious Norwood stood on the dais in the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum holding the Conerly Trophy, his mind was hundreds of miles away with his grandmother, Jinnie Proctor; and
WHEREAS, Jerious stated, "My grandmother practically raised me. I wish she could be here; she always told me to follow my heart. I try to do what I can to make her proud"; and
WHEREAS, Jerious Norwood has not only made his grandmother proud, but the entire sports community of the State of Mississippi is proud of this talented and dedicated student athlete; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize such a remarkable student athlete as Jerious Norwood who has brought honor to his sport, his family, his university and the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Jerious Norwood upon winning the coveted and prestigious Conerly Trophy recognizing him as the best college player in the State of Mississippi and wish him success in all of his future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Jerious Norwood and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
