House Concurrent Resolution 105

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE PHILADELPHIA HIGH SCHOOL LADY TORNADOES BASKETBALL TEAM FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING 2005-2006 SEASON AND FOR WINNING THE CLASS 2A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

WHEREAS, the Philadelphia High School Lady Tornadoes Girls Basketball Team finished the 2005-2006 season with an outstanding record of 28 wins and 3 losses; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Tornadoes did very well in the state playoffs this year, winning the Class 2A State Championship by defeating Coahoma County by a score of 54-47 for their first state championship; and

WHEREAS, en route to the state title, the Lady Tornadoes defeated Hinds County Agricultural High School by a score of 29-27 to claim the Class 2A South State Championship; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Tornadoes are comprised of the following players: Shenique Brass, Jafreeia Malone, Natonya McWilliams, Shanese Hunter, Katy McClenahan, Alicia Goodin, Irecy Bowden, Porsche Morgan, Tiffon Moore, Tiara Logan, Danielle Cole, Sabrina Collins, Chentrice Horne and Tamarah Hunter; and the following managers: Assata Malone, Latiah Smith, Kayla Morgan and Angela Willis; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Tornadoes have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Jason Gentry and Assistant Coach Marc Hailey, who have broadened the players' knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Tornadoes have developed a winning and cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitude reflect great credit upon the individual players and their coaches and bring honor to Philadelphia High School; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state, who are its future:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we commend and congratulate the Philadelphia High School Lady Tornadoes Basketball Team and their coaches, Head Coach Jason Gentry and Assistant Coach Marc Hailey, for their outstanding 2005-2006 season, for winning the Class 2A State Championship and for displaying tireless devotion to their athletic endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Philadelphia High School, Head Coach Jason Gentry, Assistant Coach Marc Hailey and to the members of the Capital Press Corps.
