A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION URGING CONGRESS TO ADOPT THE MARRIAGE PROTECTION AMENDMENT AS AN AMENDMENT TO THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES FOR THE PURPOSE OF PROTECTING AND PRESERVING THE SACRED INSTITUTION OF MARRIAGE AS THE UNION BETWEEN ONE MAN AND ONE WOMAN.
WHEREAS, understanding that the preferred form of marriage through the ages in the great civilizations of the world has been between one woman and one man; and
WHEREAS, understanding that almost every known society throughout the ages considers marriage a male-female sexual bond with procreative implications; and
WHEREAS, realizing that the unique trait of what is commonly called marriage is one of universal social recognition and approval; and
WHEREAS, recognizing that the efforts of 19 states to protect traditional marriage by way of a constitutional amendment as the union between one man and one woman is a clear sign to the rest of the country and our United States Congress that the citizens of each state are in strong support of this most sacred institution; and
WHEREAS, realizing that at least two joint resolutions, each entitled "The Marriage Protection Amendment," are now pending in the United States Senate which propose to amend our United States Constitution, either of which, if adopted by Congress and approved by the necessary two-thirds of the several states, would serve to protect and preserve the sacred institution of marriage as historically and traditionally known and established in this country:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby urge Congress to enact the Marriage Protection Amendment as a means of protecting and preserving the institution of marriage as the union between one man and one woman.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution shall be transmitted to the President of the United States Senate, to the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives and to each member of the delegation of the State of Mississippi in the Congress of the United States.
