A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE LUMBERTON HIGH SCHOOL PANTHERS FOOTBALL TEAM FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING 2005 SEASON AND FOR WINNING THE CLASS 2A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

     WHEREAS, the Lumberton High School Panthers Football Team finished the 2005 season with an outstanding record of 14 wins and 0 losses; and

     WHEREAS, the Panthers did very well in the state playoffs this year, winning the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 2A State Championship for the second year in a row and their fourth state title in the school's history; and

     WHEREAS, the Panthers dominated their opponents during the season by outscoring them 503 to 76 en route to their state title and the Panthers have won 24 games in a row; and

     WHEREAS, many individual honors have been bestowed upon various team members including the naming of Cord Burnett, Jamiah Holder, Terry Grant, Todd Adams, Dantrez McLemore, Rashod Henry, Victor Travis, Desmond Burnett, Cord Rogers, Matt Jacobs and B.J. Sullivan to the First Team All-District and the naming of Joe Colby Holder, Anthony Harry, Hikeam Joshua, Kirkpatrick Scott and Roderick Shanks to the Second Team All-District; and

     WHEREAS, Terry Grant was named Mr. Football 2006 by The Clarion-Ledger as well as being on The Clarion-Ledger's First Team All-State and The Clarion-Ledger's Dandy Dozen; and

     WHEREAS, the Panthers have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Teddy Dyess who has broadened the Panthers' knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and

     WHEREAS, Coach Dyess has brought additional honor to himself and Lumberton High School by being named Coach of the Year two years in a row by the Hattiesburg American, WDAM and Prep Sports Weekly and he has been named District Coach of the Year for four years; and

     WHEREAS, the Panthers have developed a winning and cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitude reflect great credit upon the individual players and their coach and bring honor to Lumberton High School; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the Legislature to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state, who are its future:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we commend and congratulate the Lumberton High School Panthers Football Team and Head Coach Teddy Dyess for their outstanding 2005 season, for winning the Class 2A State Championship and for displaying tireless devotion to their athletic endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Lumberton High School, Head Coach Teddy Dyess and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
