A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE LIFE AND WORKS OF CHARLES E. WRIGHT AND EXPRESSING OUR DEEPEST SYMPATHY UPON HIS PASSING.
WHEREAS, Mr. Charles E. Wright, the former owner of C.E. Wright Supplies, departed this life at the age of 88 on February 14, 2006, causing a great loss to his family and his many friends; and
WHEREAS, a native and lifelong resident of Greenwood, Mississippi, Mr. Wright was born July 30, 1917, to his proud and loving parents, the late Charles Edward Wright, Sr., and Daisy Price Wright; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Wright, knowing the importance of an education, attended Greenwood High School and graduated from McCallie Academy in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and later went on to the Ryan School of Aeronautics in San Diego, California; and
WHEREAS, a veteran of World War II, Mr. Wright bravely served with the United States Army Air Corps in the European Theater and was a past Commander of American Legion Post No. 29; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Wright, not only courageously protected his country, he also served his community by serving two terms as Commissioner of the Greenwood Police and Fire Departments where he exhibited outstanding leadership; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Wright participated in several organizations which included the Greenwood Lion's Club, and he was a former Exalted Ruler and a past district deputy of the North District of the Elk's Club; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Charles E. Wright was preceded in death by his loving wife, Virginia Davis Wright, who steadfastly supported him in all his endeavors; and
WHEREAS, survivors of Mr. Wright include his children, Cheryl W. Harris and Charles L. Wright; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; as well as his caretaker and friend, Mr. Frederick Barnes of Greenwood, Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to pay tribute to an outstanding individual such as Mr. Charles E. Wright who made vast contributions to his community as well as his country:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend the life and works of Mr. Charles E. Wright and express our deepest sympathy to his family during their time of loss.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the family of Mr. Charles E. Wright and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
