A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING DR. HARRY C. FRYE UPON BEING NAMED "FAMILY PHYSICIAN OF THE YEAR" BY THE MISSISSIPPI ACADEMY OF FAMILY PHYSICIANS.
WHEREAS, Dr. Harry C. Frye of Magnolia, Mississippi, was awarded "Family Physician of the Year" by the Mississippi Academy of Family Physicians on October 29, 2005, at the Academy's Fall gathering in Memphis; and
WHEREAS, the annual award, known as the John B. Howell Memorial Award is the Academy's highest honor to a Mississippi physician who exemplifies, in the tradition of family medicine, a compassionate commitment to improving the health and well-being of people and communities throughout Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Frye attended Millsaps College, and at the outbreak of World War II, volunteered to serve in the United States Army and served until the war's end in 1945; and
WHEREAS, he contracted polio shortly after completing his military service, which left him fighting for his life, but Dr. Frye would manage to survive the original bout with polio, and managed to regain some use of his lower extremities, finally learning to walk again with braces and crutches; and
WHEREAS, his ordeal with polio changed him and his outlook on life, leaving him with a renewed spirit of wanting to help others, therefore sparking his pursuit of a degree in medicine; and
WHEREAS, overcoming the odds, Dr. Frye was accepted at Tulane University and excelled academically despite the burdens placed upon him by his infirmities; and
WHEREAS, after graduating from Tulane, Dr. Frye went to Vicksburg's Mercy Hospital for his internship before settling in Magnolia in 1952; and
WHEREAS, at 82 years of age, he remains passionate about medicine and the care of his patients, and in addition to having 53 years of medicinal experience, he served more than 50 years on the local school board, most of that time as president; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend the excellence and contributions of such a great Mississippian and health care professional as Dr. Frye, whose zeal for being his brothers' keeper transcends all barriers:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Dr. Harry C. Frye upon being named "Family Physician of the Year" by the Mississippi Academy of Family Physicians and extend our warmest wishes for continued health and success in all his future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Dr. Frye and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
