AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 69-5-101, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO REVISE AND EXPAND THE MISSISSIPPI LIVESTOCK SHOW FROM THREE TO SIX DIRECTORS; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. Section 69-5-101, Mississippi Code of 1972, is amended as follows:
69-5-101. (1) In order to encourage and promote the raising of livestock and dairy stock in the state, there is hereby created a body politic and corporate to be hereafter known as "Mississippi Livestock Show" which said body politic and corporate shall be under the management and control of the Commissioner of Agriculture and Commerce, or his designee, to be a nonvoting member, director of extension service, the President of the Future Farmers of America, or his designee, the President of Mississippi Livestock Council and two (2) members elected by the Mississippi Livestock Council, hereinafter designated as directors, who shall serve without compensation. The two (2) members elected by the Mississippi Livestock Council shall be elected annually as follows:
(a) One (1) of the members elected by the Mississippi Livestock Council shall be (i) a parent or a grandparent of an exhibitor of a species of animal that is different from the animal species that is exhibited in accordance with paragraph (b) of this subsection; and (ii) shall reside in that part of the State of Mississippi that is north of Highway 80. However, the member elected under this paragraph shall not be a resident of the same county as the member elected under paragraph (b) of this subsection.
(b) One (1) of the members elected by the Mississippi Livestock Council shall be (i) a parent or a grandparent of an exhibitor of a species of animal that is different from the animal species that is exhibited in accordance with paragraph (a) of this subsection; and (ii) shall reside in that part of the State of Mississippi that is south of Highway 80. However, the member elected under this paragraph shall not be a resident of the same county as the member elected under paragraph (a) of this subsection.
(2) This section shall stand repealed from and after July 1, 2008.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2006.
