House Resolution 4

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF CHARLES "CHARLIE" R. BURCH AND EXPRESSING DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS UPON HIS PASSING.

     WHEREAS, Charles "Charlie" R. Burch, departed this earthly life on Tuesday, September 20, 2005, at the age of 80, causing great sorrow and loss to his family and friends; and

     WHEREAS, a United States Navy veteran who served during World War II, Mr. Burch was born in 1924 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, to the late William "Bill" Burch and Flossie Callahan Burch Chapman; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Burch was a longtime resident of Jackson living in the Raymond area for 15 years who had retired after 28 years of commendable service as an automotive salesman with Noel's Auto Supply; and

     WHEREAS, having been classified as a true handyman, from carpentry, mechanizing and firefighting, Mr. Burch was a faithful member of Midway Baptist Church for more than 52 years, serving as deacon, Sunday School teacher and former coach of the church ladies softball team; and

     WHEREAS, characterized as "a wonderful Christian example, the epitome of servanthood, soft-spoken, kind and humble man," Mr. Burch was a nature enthusiast and loved the great American outdoors; and

     WHEREAS, though he has traversed the rivers of life to now stand on golden heavenly shores, his memory will never be forgotten by those who loved him dearest, including:  wife of 60 years, Mavis Carr Burch; daughter, Janet Burch McAlpin (Mike); two grandchildren, Josh and Ashley; great-grandchild, Caleb; and a host of other relatives and friends; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to commend the life of such an honorable individual as Mr. Burch, whose life beamed with radiance and love:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the life and legacy of Charles "Charlie" R. Burch and express deepest sympathy to his family and friends upon his passing.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mrs. Mavis Burch and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
