A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE SELFLESS AND DEDICATED SERVICES OF LAVERNE GARDNER LINDSAY STEWART AND RECOGNIZING HER OUTSTANDING COMMITMENT TO EXCELLENCE UPON HER RETIREMENT FROM DELTA COMMUNITY MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES.

WHEREAS, LaVerne Gardner Lindsay Stewart has faithfully served the citizens of Washington County through her work in the medical field for more than 37 years, having worked 18 years at the former Washington County General Hospital as an X-ray technician and 19 years as medical transcriptionist at Delta Community Mental Health Services, and it is with appreciation that we recognize her dedication and devotion upon her retirement; and

WHEREAS, born in Greenwood and moving to Greenville by age eight, Mrs. Stewart was educated in the Greenville School System, graduating from Coleman High School and subsequently receiving an honor graduate certificate from Saginaw Business Institute in Saginaw, Michigan; and

WHEREAS, recognized as an inspiration and role model for young girls, a counseling room has been dedicated in her honor at the Alternatives for Girls Center in Detroit, Michigan; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Stewart has worked tirelessly within her community to change the plight of its youth, in addition to engaging in various community projects and civic services; and

WHEREAS, the importance of career women as role models in our homes and community cannot be underestimated, as evidenced by Mrs. Stewart who has moved through life with a good testimony of positive choices, courage, unfailing hope, endurance, useful gifts and integrity; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to honor diligent individuals, such as Mrs. Stewart, whose life and career have impacted many and serve as examples to all citizens of the State of Mississippi and whose legacy of service is exemplified by fairness, perseverance and prudent judgment:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the legacy of public service of LaVerne Gardner Lindsay Stewart upon the occasion of her retirement and express acknowledgment and appreciation for her extraordinary service to the citizens of Washington County and wish her continued success in all her future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mrs. Stewart and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
