House Resolution 1

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING MISS KELLI LYNN SCHUTZ OF BRANDON, MISSISSIPPI, UPON BEING NATIONAL WINNER OF THE 2005 AMERICA'S JUNIOR MISS PROGRAM.

     WHEREAS, Miss Kelli Lynn Schutz, the daughter of Randy and Kim Schutz of Brandon, Mississippi, won the 48th National Finals of the America's Junior Miss Program, held in Mobile, Alabama, on June 22-25, 2005; and

     WHEREAS, a student at Northwest Rankin High School, Kelli is the first Mississippi Junior Miss to win the national competition since 1988; and

     WHEREAS, having been announced that this year's America's Junior Miss Program will be the final year of competition, Kelli's accomplishment makes her selection quite memorable, as she will go down in history as America's last Junior Miss; and

     WHEREAS, having won in excess of $68,000 in cash scholarships for her college education, this academic standout's awards and honors include:  Southern Methodist University Dance and Academic Scholar; National Honor Roll; Who's Who Among American High School Students; United States Achievement Academy National English Merit Award Winner; Mu Alpha Theta, President; School Hall of Fame; School's Most Talented, Most Beautiful, Homecoming Court Maid and Class Favorite; National Honor Society; National Young Leaders Conference Nominee; Broadway Dance Center and Van Nuys Performing Arts Scholarships; Miss Teen Dance of Dixie; High School Citizenship Award; Class Secretary and Student Government Member; Beta Club; Presidential Youth Leadership Conference Nominee; New York City Dance Alliance Ballet Scholarship and Senior Outstanding Dancer Runner-Up; Student of the Month; Algebra II and Health-Highest Grade Average Awards; and

     WHEREAS, actively involved in the community, Kelli has affiliations with Mu Alpha Theta Tutoring Club; Peer Connection; American Cancer Society Performer; State Animal Rescue League Donations; State Wheelchair Association Entertainer; Nursing Home Visitation; Junior Auxiliary Crown Club Speaker; School Organizations and Service Projects; and Mississippi Metropolitan Ballet Company; and

     WHEREAS, her other interests and activities consist of Mississippi Metropolitan Dance Academy; Fellowship of Christian Athletes; River Oaks Hospital Mother/Daughter Annual Conference; Varsity Dance Team; First Priority; Women's Leadership Conference; Rankin County Rotary Club; Tremaine and Company Dance Conventions; Miss Mississippi Scholarship Pageant; Trends in Motion; and having leading roles in Ballet Productions of "The Nutcracker," "Alice in Wonderland," "Don Quixote" and "Snow White"; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize the special accomplishments of this talented young Mississippian, who has brought honor and a positive image to her school, her community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Miss Kelli Lynn Schutz of Brandon, Mississippi, for her selection as America's Junior Miss at the National Finals on June 22-25, 2005, and extend to her our heartiest wishes for success in all her future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Kelli Schutz and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
