Senate Concurrent Resolution 518

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE MISSISSIPPI STATE "BULLDOGS" BASEBALL TEAM FOR WINNING THE SEC BASEBALL TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONSHIP IN A HISTORIC TITLE GAME AGAINST THE OLE MISS REBELS.

     WHEREAS, the Mississippi State "Bulldogs" Baseball Team won the SEC Baseball Tournament Championship in a historic title game against the Ole Miss Rebels; and

     WHEREAS, it was the first time the Bulldogs and Rebels had met to decide a regular season or conference tournament championship; and

     WHEREAS, the MSU Bulldogs shut down what had been the most prolific offense in the tournament by vanquishing the arch-rival Rebels by a score of 4 to 1; and

     WHEREAS, the MSU Bulldogs steamrolled through the tournament going undefeated in tournament play; and

     WHEREAS, the Bulldogs captured their sixth conference tournament title in school history and the second in five years; and

     WHEREAS, Bulldog player, Jeff Butts, was named the tournament's "Most Valuable Player"; and

     WHEREAS, the "2005 Diamond Dogs" were ranked No. 19 in the nation in the final baseball coaches poll; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this group of talented student athletes who have brought honor to Mississippi State University and the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Mississippi State "Bulldogs" Baseball Team and Coach Ron Polk for winning the SEC Baseball Tournament Championship in a historic title game against the Ole Miss Rebels and extend to them the best wishes of the Legislature for success next season.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to the MSU Baseball Team and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
