Senate Concurrent Resolution 507

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE CAREER OF R. SCOTT BRUNNER, EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT OF THE MISSISSIPPI ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS®, AND CONGRATULATING HIM ON HIS ADVANCEMENT.

     WHEREAS, R. Scott Brunner, CAE, is Executive Vice President of the 5,400-member Mississippi Association of REALTORS®, which he joined in 1994.  Scott is now in his 16th year in Association Management; and

     WHEREAS, Scott has been selected to serve as Executive Director for the Virginia Association of REALTORS®; and

     WHEREAS, Scott is a native of Bessemer, Alabama; holds degrees from the University of Montevallo and Auburn University; and earned the prestigious Certified Association Executive designation in 1997; and

     WHEREAS, Scott was a member of the 1997-1998 class of Leadership Jackson, and was included in the Mississippi Business Journal's "Top 40 Under 40" class in 1999.  He currently chairs the Millsaps Arts & Lecture Series Advisory Board Program Committee; as 2003 Chairman of NAR's Association Executive Institute Advisory Board, he served as Dean of that year's AEI; he has served on the Board of Directors of the Mississippi Main Street Association; he spearheaded the formation of the Mississippi Coalition for Housing Opportunity and was instrumental in obtaining legislation authorizing a Mississippi REALTORS® car tag with proceeds earmarked for the Habitat for Humanity Program for Mississippi residents; and

     WHEREAS, Scott conceived and now administers the nationally recognized LeadershipMAR program, the association's leadership development initiative that has breathed new life into the Mississippi Association of REALTORS® and serves as a model for association leadership development nationwide; and

     WHEREAS, Scott has been an occasional commentator on Public Radio in Mississippi and National Public Radio's All Things Considered program.  He is the author of two books about the South.  The first is Due South:  Dispatches from Down Home, a collection of essays published in 1999; and the other is Carryin' On (and Other Strange Things Southerners Do), published in 2001, both by Random House; and

     WHEREAS, Scott is a proven leader with more than 16 years of association management experience and a track record of innovation and measurable success, a pragmatic consensus-building administrator who has served his profession well; and

     WHEREAS, Scott and his wife Karen have a nine-year-old daughter, Claire, and twin boys, Pate and Jackson, who are seven years old, and his parents are Ray and Gail Brunner of Bessemer, Alabama; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize the accomplishments of this skilled administrator who has brought honor to his association and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend the career of R. Scott Brunner, Executive Vice President of the Mississippi Association of REALTORS®, congratulate him on his selection as Executive Director for the Virginia Association of REALTORS®, and extend to him and his family the best wishes of the Legislature as he adopts a new state.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Scott Brunner, forwarded to the Mississippi Association of REALTORS® and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
