Senate Concurrent Resolution 503

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING MISS ASHLEY BUCKMAN FOR HER SELECTION AS MISSISSIPPI'S MISS HOSPITALITY 2004.

WHEREAS, Miss Ashley Buckman of Bay Springs, Mississippi, was selected as Mississippi's Miss Hospitality 2004 to serve as the state's Goodwill Ambassador in the areas of tourism and economic development; and

WHEREAS, Ashley Buckman received the honor, Mississippi's Miss Hospitality 2004, while representing Bay Springs in the Mississippi Miss Hospitality program at the Saenger Theatre in downtown Hattiesburg. Thirty-nine contestants from throughout Mississippi competed in the program for scholarships and prizes totaling nearly $100,000.00; and

WHEREAS, Ashley, 20, is a junior marketing major at the University of Mississippi, where she was awarded a leadership scholarship. She plans to attend law school upon the completion of her undergraduate studies; and

WHEREAS, while at East Central Community College, she was inducted into the Hall of Fame and was recognized as the Most Outstanding Sophomore Business Student. Ashley is also active in her community through mentoring children at local schools and organizing various toy and book drives; and

WHEREAS, Ashley is the daughter of Kathy and Chris Elliott and Dewayne and Anna Buckman; and

WHEREAS, Ashley will represent Mississippi as the "Hospitality State" at functions across the country. She is expected to travel over 30,000 miles promoting tourism and economic development for Mississippi events such as conventions, luncheons, parades, openings, festivals and speaking engagements; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize and commend this outstanding young Mississippian, who has brought honor to her community, her university and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Miss Ashley Buckman of Bay Springs, Mississippi, for her selection as Mississippi's Miss Hospitality 2004, and extend to her and her family the best wishes of the Legislature as she serves as the state's Goodwill Ambassador.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Miss Ashley Buckman and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
