House Resolution 3

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING OXFORD FIRE DEPARTMENT CHIEF JERRY JOHNSON UPON BEING ELECTED PRESIDENT OF THE MISSISSIPPI FIRE CHIEF'S ASSOCIATION.

WHEREAS, Oxford Fire Department Chief Jerry Johnson was recently elected President of the Mississippi Fire Chief's Association at the combined 68th Annual Fire Chiefs and Firefighters Association Conference 2005 in Vicksburg, Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, previously serving as first vice president of the association last year, Chief Johnson was recruited to seek the position of president by his fellow fire chiefs; and

WHEREAS, as the point man and face of the Mississippi Fire Chief's Association, which provides leadership and direction to both career and volunteer fire chiefs through information, education, services and representation, Chief Johnson's new duties will include representing the association at all functions, act as a resource and contact person for information for state and local government and preside over all conferences; and

WHEREAS, the election to his new post speaks well of the men and women associated with the Oxford Fire Department, who also serve under him in his functioning capacity as county fire coordinator for Lafayette County; and

WHEREAS, chief to 52 full-time firemen and 15 reserves, Chief Johnson, whose department holds a Class 5 fire rating with the State Insurance Rating Board, oversees the operations of three stations which serve and protect approximately 12,000 Oxford residents and 13,500 students on the campus of the University of Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize the ability and skill of such experienced and knowledgeable individuals as Chief Johnson, whose display of leadership has afforded him the opportunity to lead his fellow comrades:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Chief Jerry Johnson upon his recent selection as President of the Mississippi Fire Chief's Association and express our heartiest wishes for success in all his future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Chief Jerry Johnson and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
