Senate Resolution 20

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING DAVID GREEN FOR HIS MANY YEARS OF OUTSTANDING AND DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI AND WISHING HIM WELL UPON HIS RETIREMENT.

     WHEREAS, David Green, of the Mississippi House of Representatives, is completing 25 years of consecutive service as a member of the House from District 96, which includes Adams, Amite, Pike and Wilkinson Counties; and

     WHEREAS, born on October 14, 1951, in Rosetta, Mississippi, Representative Green attended Southwest Mississippi Community College where he received his associate's degree and the University of Southern Mississippi, where he received his bachelor's degree in criminal justice; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Green, a retail merchant and former sheriff's deputy and municipal police officer, was first elected to the Mississippi House of Representatives in 1980; and

     WHEREAS, the talents and ability of David Green were recognized by the legislative leadership as evidenced by his rising from freshman lawmaker to serve as Chairman of the House Fees and Salaries of Public Officers Committee and former Chairman of the House County Affairs Committee, in addition to serving or having served on the Appropriations, Investigate State Offices, Labor, Rules, Management, Transportation and Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks (formerly Game and Fish); and

     WHEREAS, known by his colleagues as an able and dedicated legislator, who has effectively represented the citizens of his district and state, Representative Green is a Mason, 33rd degree Shriner, member of the NAACP, Voters League and is affiliated with the Order of Eastern Star and the Heroines of Jericho; and

     WHEREAS, in addition to his career as a successful statesman, Representative Green was a devoted husband to his late wife, Mrs. Julia Green, and has remained a loving and caring father to his daughter, Jelita, as well as a faithful member of the Baptist Church; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Green has indicated that effective June 1, 2005, he will retire from the Mississippi House of Representatives and the members of the Mississippi Legislature wish to express their sincere appreciation to him for his dedicated service to the people of the State of Mississippi and for the personal sacrifices that he has made on their behalf:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend our friend and colleague, David Green, for all that he has meant to the Mississippi State Legislature and for his unmatched contributions to the people of the State of Mississippi, and we want him to know that his presence, his leadership and his earnest anecdotes to reaching the resolution of an issue will be greatly missed by this legislative body.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Representative David Green and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
