A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE ETA OMEGA CHAPTER OF PHI THETA KAPPA, COPIAH-LINCOLN COMMUNITY COLLEGE, WESSON, MISSISSIPPI.
WHEREAS, Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society had its beginnings at Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, in 1910; and
WHEREAS, the name Phi Theta Kappa was chosen in 1918 as the national organization with eight charter chapters to recognize the outstanding scholastic achievements of two-year college students; and
WHEREAS, Phi Theta Kappa is an honor society "to recognize and encourage scholarship among two-year college students"; and
WHEREAS, the ideals of Phi Theta Kappa which band that organization together are wisdom, aspiration, and purity; and
WHEREAS, Phi Theta Kappa, with over 1,200 chapters, is the largest organization in the world which recognizes scholastic achievements of two-year college students; and
WHEREAS, the Eta Omega Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at the Wesson Campus of Copiah-Lincoln Community College was chartered in 1951; and
WHEREAS, the Eta Omega Chapter has distinguished itself as a leader among other chapters in Phi Theta Kappa International; and
WHEREAS, the Eta Omega Chapter was named the "Most Outstanding Chapter" in the Mississippi/Louisiana Region for 2004-2005; and
WHEREAS, the Eta Omega Chapter attended the 2005 Phi Theta Kappa International Convention on April 14-16, in Grapevine, Texas; and
WHEREAS, the Eta Omega Chapter received recognition for Chris Collins as a Guistwhite Scholar, one of twenty students internationally, at the International Convention; and
WHEREAS, the Eta Omega Chapter received recognition for Karen Wallace Freeman as a "Leader of Promise," one of thirty students internationally; and
WHEREAS, the advisors of the Eta Omega Chapter are Lea Ann Knight, Randy Castilaw and Neisha Leggett; and
WHEREAS, the President of the Eta Omega Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa is Karen Wallace Freeman; and
WHEREAS, the Eta Omega Chapter received one of ten Hallmark Awards given internationally in each of the areas of leadership, service and fellowship; and
WHEREAS, the Eta Omega Chapter provides enhancements to academic programs and the quality of life at the Wesson Campus of Copiah-Lincoln Community College; and
WHEREAS, the Eta Omega Chapter was named the "Most Distinguished Chapter" of Phi Theta Kappa International:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Eta Omega Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at the Wesson Campus of Copiah-Lincoln Community College for its outstanding achievements and for being recognized on April 16, 2005, at Grapevine, Texas, as the "Most Distinguished Chapter" in the world.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution shall be forwarded to the President of Copiah-Lincoln Community College, and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
